I'm Excited About the Hugos!
Apr. 25th, 2011 02:32 amI love Hugo nomination time.
I started a one-woman campaign for Randall Munroe . . . and he was nominated. Last year, I realized I hadn't nominated him until a tidge too late.
And
nojojojo and
seanan_mcguire for best novel!
Rachel Bloom got there through something completely off the wall, but she's excited about it. Clearly a fan, though Rick and I both thought immediately of Neil Gaiman's response to winning his first.
There are always regrets, of course:
1) Favorite TV shows that didn't get a nod, including Fringe, Caprica, and Flash Forward.
2) Very glad that "Chicks Dig Time Lords" made the cut, but very sad that "Packing for Mars" did not. It's honestly one of the best-researched books I've ever read. Mary Roach has a real knack for perverse details.
3) Rick and I split our votes on the Campbell, and some of my favorites didn't make the final cut.
4) Charles Yu's How to Live Safely in a Science Fictional Universe is delightful, though I'm not done with it yet. I wish it would have been nominated.
Aside from that, a lot of things we voted for made it, but not all.
