Arrived in London
May. 27th, 2007 01:18 pm10-hour flights suck, but this one wasn't as bad as I feared, and also wasn't as bad as the one to Glasgow.
A note about the Hilton Heathrow: it bears approximately the same logistical connection to Heathrow that St. Paul does to Minneapolis or Nashua NH has to Burlington VT. Giving its location as Terminal 4 is misleading. For those of you who were in Glasgow, I would fully believe that this Hilton is as far from Terminal 1 as the Glasgow Hilton was from the Armadillo.
To get from Terminal 1 to Terminal 4, you take a train. From there, it's a frell of a long walk to Terminal 4, and another frell of a long walk to the Hilton. You know it's bad when they say things like "4 minutes walk" -- and you know that you've been walking so long you can hardly stand it.
Ah, well, good practice.
Analgesics imbibed, so it's now naptime.
By the way: I heart British Airways.
Also, from best to worst, my experiences calling up card firms and telling them I'd be overseas:
Chase (the BEST rep, she was super cool)
American Express
Citibank
Capital One (couldn't be completed at that hour, but account noted; process took > 20 minutes)
Bank of America (on hold for 30 minutes without reaching a human)
