Tonight, Rick and I went to see How To Be at Cinequest. One of my questions about Pattinson after seeing Twilight was how he'd fare in other leading roles.
I'm happy to report that the dude can actually act.
When Pattinson's name came up on the credits, most of the audience screamed.
The film was quite funny, but it did seem that a significant chunk of the audience had seen it before, because they laughed in anticipation of the funny bit.
As we were leaving, Rick was looking around. I asked him what he was looking for, and he replied, "Someone else who is male."
Here's an interview with Oliver Irving, the director. He did a short Q&A session after the film.
Notes from Oliver Irving interview after the film on 2/28:
Oliver was asked about casting Pattinson. Even though it's a small film, they tested hundreds of actors for the role of Art. Pattinson had forgotten his lines and went into nervous giggles, and that's when the director realized he was perfect for the role.
Notes from Oliver Irving interview after the film on 3/1:
He said he had been looking for an actor who could play the guitar "a bit" but really wasn't very good. Rob said that he could play a little, and it turned out he could play better than that, so Rob actually had to play down to the part.
Oliver hadn't really been playing attention to the Harry Potter films, so when he saw that Rob had been in it, he thought it was just some extra part, because "the entire country" had been in the Harry Potter films. Rob had downplayed his role in the films, and it was only much later that Oliver discovered that Rob had played a much larger role than Oliver had thought.
