There has been a grassroots campaign to contact Weinstein Co. to request more showings. The Fanboys MySpace page has said "If it has a good opening weekend, with a high per-screen average, then the studio will widen the release, adding more screens in more cities in the weeks that follow."

It has been announced that Fanboys expands into 10 more cities on February 20, 2009.

There was a special screening in Columbus, Ohio on February 20th. The 9:50 showing at the AMC Lennox 24 in Columbus, Ohio was followed by a Q&A session with Kyle Newman, Ernie Cline, Matt Perniciaro and Kevin Mann.[19] The apparent reason for this, according to Cline in a pre-show speech, was the fact that he grew up in Ashland, Ohio, and the story was set in a fictional town similar to Ashland. As such, he wanted to hold a special screening with fans in his home state.
