Movie Neepery
Feb. 2nd, 2009 03:26 pmTwilight is now the 100th top grossing domestic box office film ever.
It also has the highest gross ever by a woman director and made back its production costs in a day and a half.
So: Go Catherine Hardwicke!
Compare that to, say, Inkheart, which was released in the January doldrums and probably won't earn back its costs on domestic box office and will thus be considered a flop. (It's a decent movie, but it's not a great movie.)
Or Milk, which is a great movie, but in two months of release has only just started breaking even. If it weren't for the award nominations, it might not have done even that well. It finally got to a larger number of theatres just this past weekend, probably due to the nominations.
