We're here in Warnemünde, on the north coast of Germany. Many people took the chartered train to Berlin this morning, but we decided to stay locally in Rostock and Warnemünde. My ancestors went to the University in Rostock in the 1460s, not long after its founding.

Rostock and Warnemünde wound up on the East German side of the dividing line, and East Germany had been very heavily bombed during WW2, especially the Rostock area (because of the production of ships). It still produces ships, though these days they're container ships.

Right now, I'm uploading photos from Canterbury and Denmark, which will be available on my Flickr page tagged with europe2008. I don't know how many of the 77 photos I've vetted will wind up available on this particular "hour of free internet," though.

I'm writing longer entries starting tonight with an offline editor so that I can fill in more of the blanks.

P.S.: There's something Just Wrong about a Stroganoff burrito in a Mexican restaurant that serves Jagermeister. The tacos were tasty and mostly taco-like, though with the sour cream and mushrooms on the pork taco, I wondered for a moment if I'd gotten a stroganoff taco.... But it also had a passable guacamole.

P.P.S: Where's the nearest avocado growing grounds to northern Germany, anyway? Avocados don't like frost.
