Jul. 17th, 2004 11:02 amRoxanne Hutton died yesterday after a multi-year battle with inoperable brain cancer. I was upset enough about it that I couldn’t write about it yesterday.
She’d won second place in the fall 2003 Writers of the Future contest, arguably the best in the field. Unfortunately, that book will be published in October, so she’ll never hold it in her hands.
Bio of her here. Some of her comments can be found here. And her publication list can be found here.
Of all the people who have done Odyssey, my exchanges with Roz made me feel like she was most like who I was and who I wanted to be. Finding out about her illness helped push me to write more and focus on what I really wanted to do.
Unlike Eugie, I’ve met Roz. I’ve had dinner with her once, but had also apparently run into her at least twice on other occasions.
I’ll update with links to other blogs mentioning Roz’s passing as I find them.
