Feeling Better

Got that tooth out. The dentist didn’t have to use extreme measures, but it wasn’t the easiest extraction I’ve had. Nor was it the worst.

Despite my face being sore from the trauma, I feel so much better, enough so that I took a walk to help reduce the post-lidocaine shakes. That alone says how much better I’m doing.

Ah, I'm glad it's over. Though, to be fair, extraction is better than root canal.

And, for this tooth, I've had the luck to have both!

Ouch! I've never had a tooth canal; I'd asked him to pull it instead.

A root canal costs about 1/4 as much and, at the time, implants weren't as far along as they are now. Also, pulling a tooth will sink the jaw line and remove support for adjacent teeth. Classically, this can also be a source of periodontal problems as it deepens pockets, so it's not always a good solution.

I had a bone graft done Saturday so the socket won't sink, but that added another $750. Sigh. Now I just need to heal up for the implant.

That's true, but it's so invasive, and doesn't always work.

Btw, I found my earlier account, sophy, so I'll be using that one instead. This means that I'd wasted this account you've given me, and I'm sorry about that. For some reason I'd thought they'd deleted my earlier one but I'm glad they didn't, as that one is setup already.
