A Ship Built By Women
Dec. 22nd, 2010 12:10 amOn Sunday, Rick and I went to see the aircraft carrier USS Hornet in Alameda. It was built during WW2 during the "Rosie the Riveter" era, so it was largely built by women. It's been a museum for some years, but you still have to go up and down all the ladders, which is bundles of fun for me. (I still hurt a lot...)

This was the ship that picked up Apollo 11, so there's also a little area where there's footage from the splashdown, plus there's the presidential seal where Nixon looked out to sea for the astronauts. Here they all are:
