Rick and I have both agreed we wouldn't work a job around backscatter machines without a dosimeter, were we in such a position. I can't remember where I first read about TSA employees being denied dosimeters, but the comments asking about them on the TSA blog are ignored. This article gives one story about the TSA being denied dosimeters.

There is, however, a workaround: if one claims a dosimeter is one's religious artifact and one's faith requires wearing it.

Just a thought.

I'm sure some of you know people in the TSA. Some of you may even suggest that TSA employees start professing some odd religious beliefs so they can have a dosimeter. I will likely do the same.

(Linking of my public posts is always okay, btw.)

Update: as Rick notes in comments below, TSA employees who own their own dosimeters are prohibited from wearing them on the job as well.
