Two Months of Thyroid Treatment
Jul. 12th, 2009 04:51 pmI thought I'd give some of you an update about how I've been doing.
Two months ago, I was put on synthetic thyroid hormones in order to shrink a goiter as an alternative to surgery. To be clear, I actually have four goiters, which started out at 3.8mm, 2.9mm, 0.7mm and 0.6mm. The two larger ones are on either side of my neck pressing in and was affecting my breathing and swallowing.
In addition to the synthetic hormone, I've added or changed the following:
1) Small dose of dessicated thyroid hormone
2) Small dose of dessicated adrenal
3) Ferritin (iron transport)
4) Changed to a non-soy containing multivitamin, though I haven't been able to find a whole food vitamin that I'm sure is goitrogen free
5) Made sure I had dietary sources of iodine sufficient for thyroid function
6) Eliminated any known goitrogens from my diet.
How's it going?
1) Energy levels up, and up enough that others have commented on it
2) Goiter shrinking, and visibly enough that others have commented on it; bonus that I don't choke on food as frequently or feel I'm not getting air as much
3) Pain levels down with corresponding prescription pain med decrease, though I'm still settling on a dose
Yay.
