I See Egypt
Jun. 4th, 2007 05:43 amHere we are in the waters outside of Egypt. I can see some of the lights of shore, but the sun is not yet up. As my alarm went off, I got an email: Welcome to T-Mobile -- I've got international roaming through Vodaphone EG (Egypt).
We picked up the pilot a few minutes ago. I didn't see it, but I heard the tugboat. For those of you who don't know, a ship's captain doesn't bring a ship into a port. A tugboat comes out to sea with a pilot. The pilot knows the port intimately, so he comes up on the bridge and is the effective captain while the ship is guided into port and until it docks. Likewise, pilots also bring the ship out of port. It's sort of an interesting job, because they get ships (and even submarines) of all kinds and sizes.
It seems so surreal that we'll be seeing pyramids today, especially after several days of seeing Greek sites.
