Seriously Nice Lens
Sep. 25th, 2010 04:13 amI'd gotten a great bargain on an old Pentax (actually, Asahi, as that was the even-older name; Pentax was a name they started using with the pentaprism SLRs) 200mm lens. It arrived before we left for Australia, but it was in a big box, I knew I'd already over-packed and I couldn't be bothered. So I left it until today.
It. Is. Huge.
It. Is. Old.
It. Looks. Brand. New.
Not only is there the original box, the leather case without a scuff, the lens in perfect condition, and a warranty card for Honeywell Pentax that's clearly set in the old days of type.
Based on the names used, I can narrow the lens down to sometime after 1957 to sometime in the mid 70s. The original price for the lens was $189.50. To give you an idea what the modern analogue would cost, here's a pretty close Canon equivalent that's slightly faster.
Oh. I paid $40 plus shipping, which is, frankly, a crime.
